Legendary Coach on “Admin. Leave” over Knowledge of Assistant’s Domestic Violence Accusations

Ohio State has placed coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave, and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ryan Day will serve as acting head coach during Meyer’s absence, the university announced in a statement on Wednesday night.

“The university is conducting an investigation into these allegations,” Ohio State associate vice president for university communications Chris Davey said in the statement. “During the inquiry, Urban Meyer will be on paid administrative leave. Ryan Day will serve as acting head football coach during the investigation. We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible.”

Meyer also released a statement saying he supports the university’s decision.

Who are the members of the group investigating this?  ESPN reports:

“The group will be composed of three current members of the board of trustees (Alex Fischer, Janet Porter and Alex Shumate), as well as three people not associated with the university (former Ohio House Speaker Jo Ann Davidson, former acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Craig Morford and former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Carter Stewart). It will work in conjunction with the university’s office of compliance and integrity to investigate Meyer.
