Developing Alaska’s Next Gold Mine
INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.
Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse.
Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse, President & CEO, Contango Ore, a well-capitalized gold developer advancing the Manh Choh Project in Alaska in partnership with Kinross Gold, which will be in production by 2024, will discuss the road that mining companies traverse from development to production with the Price of Business. Contango Ore began trading on the NYSE under the ticker symbol (CTGO) in November 2021.
“We are developing what we believe will be the next gold mine in Alaska,” says Rick Van Nieuwenhuyse. “We are doing this in partnership with a subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corp. and the Tetlin Alaska Native Tribe. Our partnership with Kinross allows us to mine our 1.3 Moz Peak Gold deposit ore, then truck and process that ore at Kinross’ Fort Knox Milling Complex.
It is a simple plan requiring relatively low capital investment (we are not building or permitting a mill or a tailings facility) and consequently has relatively low execution risk. Based on Kinross’ estimates, Contango ORE will produce on average 66,000 Gold Equivalent Ounces (GEO) per year over a 5 year timeframe at an average All In Sustaining Cost (AISC) of $750/GEO.
The company has mineral rights covering 845,000 acres in the heart of the Tintina Gold belt – one of the hottest exploration plays in the world. The Management Team has a proven track record of discovering high quality gold, silver and copper deposits that have created significant returns for shareholders.”
Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse is a seasoned mining executive who was appointed to serve as President, Chief Executive Officer, and director of Contango Ore in January 2020. He previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Trilogy Metals Inc. from January 2012 until December 2019. Between May 1999 and January of 2012, he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of NOVAGOLD, Inc, a company that he founded. He served as the Vice President of Exploration for Placer Dome from 1990 to 1997. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuyse holds a Candidature degree in Science from Université de Louvain, Belgium and a Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Arizona.
