The Denise Billen-Mejia Commentaries

In this episode of H2, I speak with UK-based hypnotherapist Les Roberts about the therapeutic applications of hypnosis, particularly with children. Les shares insights on working with children as young as three, often using innovative approaches like speaking to them while they sleep*. We emphasize the importance of early intervention for both children and adults and the significant role parents play in recognizing issues. Les discusses working with children facing challenges like selective eating, social anxieties, and attachment issues heightened by COVID-19. She shares an illustrative case where a mother’s behaviors significantly influenced her daughter’s anxiety. Les highlighted the need to educate parents alongside working with children to foster lasting change and continuity at home. She reflects on her eight-year hypnotherapy career, which followed work  as part of an Integrated Therapy Team in pediatric therapeutic roles with the NHS.

**ARFID   Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is a fairly newly recognized eating disorder. Children with ARFID are extremely selective eaters and sometimes have little interest in eating food. They often eat a very limited variety of preferred foods, which can lead to poor growth and poor nutrition.
